Our dishes
Our Story
Martirio Limón was our grandmother, and our inspiration in gastronomy and in life.
She was born more than 100 years ago into a humble family in a small village in La Rioja. From a very young age, she helped with the housework to support her family.
She married, had 3 children and 4 grandchildren, and was the only woman in the family — yet she was its matriarch and its great reference point for everyone. A strong, unassuming, cheerful woman, ahead of her time despite her health and family struggles.
What for some would be a MARTYRDOM (“martirio”), for her was HAPPINESS.
On Saturdays she loved inviting family and friends over to eat with great joy, preparing each week the favourite dishes of her different guests. On every table there was always a LEMON (“limón”), in case the soup, the chicken, the fish or the meat needed one more touch. That is where the name MARTIRIO LIMÓN comes from.
Now we, José Ramón and Ángel, bring you the finest Mediterranean cuisine specialities, prepared by her youngest grandson and the one who used to cook alongside her, Ángel Urzay.
